Oh shit!
— By Jami on January 6, 2009 at 9:15 amI couldn’t make this stuff up, y’all…
Ok, so on this new dating site that I’m on (www.okcupid.com) they have something called “Quiver Matches”. They generate someone based upon your search parameters that they think you will match well with.
Usually, it’s someone in my city, around my age. Outside of that, I generally don’t have anything in common with their picks.
You can reject the match and the site will try to pick guys that are not similar to that guy. You can also accept the match and email that person. The computer will also generate more matches similar to that user.
When I logged in today, guess what I saw?
Are you ready? This shit is unbelievable!

G’head. Click it. Make it bigger.
And then join me as a I GUFFAW at the sheer idea that I got paired up with Aussie Rick!

I’m jealous. They keep trying to match me up with 24-year-olds.

The “quiver” thing truly can be an annoyance, to be sure.
That having been said, a lot of people fail to answer very many of the questions that permit this automatic matching to function (and to whatever degree of success, is of course, determined purely subjectively).
So, unless you’ve answered a whole mess of them and the people within your “search parameters” have also answered a great number…. you’re completely screwed.
I gave up after continually being matched with 22 year old eco-lawyers-in-training who fail to appreciate the simple beauty in a finely prepared piece of cow. Those who answered only the barest minimum necessary.
Great blog, by the way.

Thank you, Pax. The quiver matches are generally a trip. This one was just like a little gift-wrapped, tinsel-covered present.
