Wise Words in 140-Characters Or Less

Saw this on Texts From Last Night:

Dating is not our generation’s strong point. We’re an era that’s good at getting laid.

And I read it and was just like, “Damn, Anonymous Texter From Last Night. That is spot-on and totally sad. Likely an after-product of our parent’s generation of free love and acid-soaked orgies.”

So, really…

It’s not our fault, guys. Next time your mother says, “When are you going to get married and give me some grandbabies!?” you can just remind her where we learned the behavior from… right?

No?

Well, damn.

Heck that era actually predates my age group by about a half a generation – as bad a time as the 70s was to come of age, I can clearly remember thinking when I saw the excesses of the 60s, “Jeez I’m glad I don’t have to do any of *that*”. As if it was required or something … hey I was about 15 or so. The ‘Me Generation’ was my parents’ generation, who ditched their parents and kids in pursuit of self-gratification. It was an overreaction to the self-sacrifice of the WWII generation, and history will not look at them or us kindly, I’m afraid.
The reality was that only a small percentage of kids, mostly college age and older, were involved in that crazy scene, but the influence of mass media was much more pervasive back then, and their horrified “look at THIS!” daily news reports made it seem like it was everywhere.
And I’ll fully admit that the thoughtless, free-love, anything goes lifestyle carried over, with poor results.
