    My Self-Summary

    Attempting sans ego:

Smart, funny, witty, clever, redundant, that’s all me. And modesty, for certain. I love laughing, learning, doing new things, not being specific, and all sorts of other cliches associated with this sort of thing.

I like people who make me laugh, make me think, make me giggle even maybe. But I also like people who are self aware. That regularly jump the line between serious and absurd and back again. I like banter. I enjoy traveling, whether near or far, reading, and so forth.

I’m not a huge fan of the “Woo”, I realized. Mostly because I don’t appreciate OKCupid’s appropriation of the word “woo” for their own nefarious purposes. If you look through the site and read the word as it was originally intended to be used, it can become disheartening to see so many “unwooable” people.

I moved to the city from the depths of Virginia just FIVE (as of 4.1.08) months ago! I’ve been excited to be amongst relative civilization and things like live music, good beer and wine selections, fun exploring and so forth.

Oh! And now I get word I’m supposed to suddenly repack (okay, okay, I didn’t unpack as much as I said I would…) and move off to Europe! Okay!

Oh, actually no, I’m told I’m to remain indefinitely in San Francisco now. So I guess I really should unpack. Also, perhaps I should delete all this so it doesn’t look like I’m talking to myself. Because people who do that are crazy, right? Right.

(1/09)Okay, so that last thing I said is still true, I’m still here. But I figured it appropriate to update since I’ve lived in San Francisco over a year now. Also, while I am from and lived most recently in Virginia, I’ve lived in California before. I dig it, though I can’t imagine staying here (or anywhere) forever (at the moment).

What I’m doing with my life

As stated, I just moved here. My job, which I really enjoy, transferred me here to do something new and daunting and exciting. For the meantime this involves something related to investment, entrepreneurship and Web 2.0-y stuff. We’ll see where this leads.

So for the meantime I suppose I’m doing that, adjusting, exploring, shenanigans. Other stuff probably as well.

Up to about a year ago I was traveling, living overseas at times and about to make a real attempt at expatriating. Accepting my current job prevented me from such things, but I’m optimistic the job will let me do so before long, plus I do get to travel at times.

    I’m really good at

Remembering pointless and useless informations, grammar, intentionally bad grammar, counting backwards, learning languages or parts of languages (for an American anyway), wanderlust, parallel parking

The first thing(s) people usually notice about me

I’m supertall, I have hypno-eyes and I’m sarcastic (I mean the first things are actually true, but it’s very difficult to plainly say you’re sarcastic while showing the quality. Saying “I’m not sarcastic” is just confusing, and not very good sarcasm anyway). Also, the eyebrows.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

    Eeep! Lists!

For someone pretty literate, I’m surprisingly non-literary. Well, that’s possibly not true, but I can never read as much as a want to. I’m semi-half-heartedly working on this. I do quite enjoy Vonnegut, and really any fiction that’s on the funny but real side. Also nerdy non-fiction endeavors concerning history, international politics, economics and so forth. (1/09):I changed my mind, I’m plenty literary now. I must have taken care of that all-the-way half-heartedly!

I enjoy films by Wes Anderson (esp Rushmore), Evil Dead films, Superbad, those Judd Apatow movies, Indiana Jones films, Big Lebowski, Better Off Dead, Life of Brian, Office Space, many more, anything smart and/or silly that doesn’t take itself too seriously, unless it’s THAT good. Oh, and also bad movies. Just don’t make me watch anything mediocre. I don’t really watch TV, but some things are just too good, such as Arrested Development, Home Movies, Venture Bros (and other Adult Swim shows that are funny w/o trying too hard), Flight of the Conchords, Curb Your Enthusiasm, et cetera.

People judge how cool you are by this section, so I’ll just leave it vagueish and say I dig classic rock (especially bluesier stuff) as well as indie rock (particularly when it’s rhythmy). And probably other stuff too. Oh, but I hate the fucking Eagles, man.

I’m terribly fond of Mexican food, South-Asian cuisine, Sushi, other stuff. I really like pubs, but more for beer and atmosphere than for their deliciously horrible greasy offerings. I’m also a beer snob (particularly for British ales and Eastern European lagers) and a wine enthusiast.

The six things I could never do without

Sleep, I’m horribly dependent on techogadgetry so probably mobile phone +/or laptop, language, other people (to laugh with or at), and, um, ponies, sure. I have no idea how many things I’ve listed. I should also add banter.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

A lot and not a lot at the exact same instant. And then I further think about how and whether that’s even possible.

On a typical Friday night I am

I am so incredibly interesting that no two Fridays have ever been the same, or resembled one another at all, really.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I’m not really all that afraid of clowns.

    You should message me if

You’re smart as fuck and funny as hell. Or vice versa. You’ve seen some of the world and speak some of the languages. You have a sense of style of your own and will let me beat you at arm wrestling. Also, awesome.

Alright, so I’m gonna weigh in on this one. I talked about it this week — I really don’t like the tacked-onto-the-end updates in profiles. You sound like a bipolar, freaking out and feverishly opening and slamming your suitcase shut. I do like what you have to say and, seeing how it’s similar to me, I like your delivery style. It’s very conversational. But clean it up. Get it current.

My first thought was, “Are his pictures over a year old, too?” Bad juju, friend. Don’t do that to yourself.

The rest of your profile, I love. I think it’s probably pretty indicative of the kind of person you are. I would like to maybe see a bit more about what you’re looking for, but it sounds like, in general, you’re just content with where you’re at and enjoying your ride, so… Maybe that isn’t necessary at this point in your life.

And lose that second picture. I just adore that Where’s Waldo picture!
