Sunday Showcase: Krims
Sunday Showcase — By Jami on October 4, 2009 at 1:16 am
Ladies and germs, meet Krims. Remember Krims? My breakfast date that sort of fizzled and flopped? Well he and I have become pretty great friends. He’s a delightful individual and actually a little nervous about throwing himself up on the chopping block here. I keep telling him that he’s got nothing to worry about. He’s hot, smart, interesting, creative and a really fantastic person.

38 / M / straight / Single
My self summary
First, I live about 30 minutes south of downtown.
I’m a photographer. Pinup, tattoo magazines, fine art, documentary.
I’m open to the idea of a long term relationship, but i’m not willing to settle for someone that isn’t right for me.
And there you have it. Feel free to ask any other questions you have.
What I’m doing with my life
Photographer in [redacted] and doing some corporate web design temporarily. Raising my dramatic 13 year old daughter. Enjoying it!
I’m really good at
capturing images, cooking, listening, enjoying nature.
The first things people usually notice about me
Random hilarity and my eyes
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Books: I read about 20 blogs a day and I write my blog. You should check out the blog Datewrecks.com. If you don’t know about it… you might just be on it! I usually read non-fiction books.
Movies: True Romance, Reservoir Dogs, Angel Heart, River’s Edge. I watch a lot of documentaries. Born into Brothels, Sicko, Super Size Me, Paper clips.
Music: My most recent listening regime has included:
New Robert Plant (on right now), The Pixies, Hank Williams, The Violent Fems, Prince, Tool, REM, could go on but this is even boring me so…
The six things I could never do without
There is nothing I couldn’t live without. Family, photography, meeting interesting people, seeing new places are all things that are important to me.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
not thinking, political jackassery
On a typical Friday night I am
Art show maybe, taking pictures of something, on a date, the 3rd Friday of the month I put on tights and save the world.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I made a personal decision a little over 2 years ago to quit drinking.
I’m an open book. Ask anything.
You should message me if
Easier to say who I know I’m not compatible with:
- Heavy drinkers – Fundamentalist Christians (or extremists of any kind) – Hardcore Republicans – People who take themselves too seriously
Everyone else proceed!
I do like to be around someone who is fairly intelligent, artistic or appreciates art, funny, moderately happy, spends more time in a coffee shop than a bar, laughs, is somewhat interested in the mysteries of the universe and is kind to people they don’t have to be kind to.
Knowing Krims personally, I think it’s a bit of a catch-22 for my objectivity on critiquing his profile. On the one hand, I know him and can catch (and perhaps read into) nuances of his profile — sort of reading between the lines. On the other hand, those of you who don’t know him personally may find his profile is brief and lacking detail. I think it’s a good profile though, from my end. You can glean from it what matters most to him and what is important to him.
So… what do you think?

I love it! Great pictures, enough information to make me wish we lived on the same continent- cute! I like people who lay it out there without giving TMI. And did I say cute? I love the picture with the birthday cake.

Ahhh Krims, good looking guy!
My geeky advice? Take the “I like to be around someone who…” paragraph and put it at the top of your ad (but fix the grammar:kind to people to whom they don’t have to be).
That sentence injects the warmth and humanity into your profile.
Nice profile, much luck to you!

I think Krims did a nice job. He’s honest and open, pics look great and they also display his personality (serious photographer and funny guy). The fact that he says up front that he has a kid and admits to being an ex-drinker gives him a lot of pluses.
I say WOOT to Krims

The pictures seem to represent that ole Krims does not invest much into his warddrobe though.
It’s one thing to be practical and slightly anti consumerist; consumption hampster – but it might be a good idea to let the ladies know you have at least one decent shirt and a pair of dress shoes in your closet. No offesne, but those three t shirts pictured look like they would make some pretty good car waxing rags since they have been well laundered.
the ladies might like the unshaven, it took me an hour to make my hair look like bed-head look, and it probably works for his website, tattoo photography clientele. But the hard truth is it looks a little sloppy and lazy on a 38 yr old non-actor. Either grow it and trim it, or shave it.
Those couple of things make me think – ARTIST-> SEE STARVING ARTIST
And in this economy, there is not alot of room between struggling and dead ass broke. And nothing attracts the ladies more than a sexy, dead ass broke 40 year old guy.

This cracks me the hell up. Seriously? You think women will make assumptions on a man’s income based on the fact that he is wearing a well-worn, vintage looking pacman tshirt? Seriously?! I mean, there’s a part of me that GETS that. If all of his shirts were, say, the free shirts you get from the radio station or something like that… I could get that. But just because you don’t like his style, that automatically makes you think he’s poor?
This might be the most ridiculous comment I’ve seen on the Sunday Showcase series.
Personally, I don’t care if a man has nice dress shoes. I’m not a fancy girl and am most comfortable in my chucks (sans socks, classss-say, I know).
Here’s the thing about your comment, Boy Wonder, you’re wanting him to make himself out to be someone he is not. If he’s more comfortable in vintage tshirts and jeans and whatever, then so be it. He shouldn’t dress himself up for his personal ad — what we call that is deceptive. Not cool.

PS — The natural, sort of messy hair and the scraggly beard –> 99.99% of the time is HOT. Super masculine and hot.
Super short beards that are all manicured or a perpetual five o’clock shadow –> BEARD BURN. Nobody wants beard burn on their face or their, um, more delicate areas.
You just sound like a hater on this one, Boy Wonder…

I 100% agree with Jami, and would add that one token “look, I own a dress shirt! And dress shoes!” picture would detract from the profile for me. Krims is who he is and his profile seems honest. BoyWonder may want to consider the fact that there are plenty of ladies out there who prefer scraggle and vintage tees (plus, I have to laugh at the assumption that tee shirt = low cost wardrobe. Do you have any IDEA how expensive some of those vintage tees cost?).

I think it’s a pretty solid profile. It doesn’t say too much, and it says just enough for someone to get a feel for who he is and what he wants.
I’m not really liking the cake picture, because in that frame he looks like he doesn’t want to be there. I’m sure that’s not the case– maybe there’s another picture from that party where he’s enjoying himself more? I don’t know. The first picture is good, the third and fifth are excellent, and the even the fourth shows him having a laugh, and that’s always good.
Mind you, I feel rather hypocritical weighing in on someone’s profile when it’s far better than mine! But it’s good. And he’s cute. And I wish him all the best.

In general, a promising profile: seems intelligent, interesting, and is obviously a good looking guy. I guess I would want to know a little about what he’s looking for in a partner, maybe? And I, too, caught the Fems/Femmes misspell. If I came across this profile, I’d write to him in a heartbeat (um, if I was single and looking)…
And as far as facial scruff goes, that’s a major turn-ON for me… I’m always trying to get my husband to not shave over a weekend or something, especially since he has to be clean-shaven for work.
Good luck to you, Krims – you seem like a good catch!

Seriously, Helen! I think a scruffy face is super sexy
And I like messy hair that doesn’t look like it took an hour to create.

I like the Pacman shirt. xD
I think he was a good pick for the Showcase, he seems normal, intelligent, and pretty cool.

That “Homogenizer” pic doesn’t look good, imho. The first pic is fantastic, but then the “intentional stubble” in that pic looks like “haven’t-bothered-to-shave stubble” in the other one or two there.. And combine that with the sweaty T-shirt.. just not doing himself any favors there.

I think it’s funny that the only two people that DON’T like Krims are men.
Hey. Men. Here’s a clue: Women seem to like the scruffy look on an artist. I’m just sayin’.

You’re not being very objective. You asked for comments, and ripped apart the first guy to comment in a way you didn’t agree with. I almost didn’t bother.
If you like the pics, great. I don’t think that one is good at all. Maybe you like sweaty guys in some sort of factory setting.
First pic looks like he could be a model. I get the “good scruffy” there. The others don’t live up. Are you really asking for opinions, or is this just “say nice things about my friend”?

Oh, Jay, dude. Really. I already said I was going to have a hard time being objective here, but I think that the plethora of other comments from the women on this thread make it clear that you are in the minority here.
The point of Sunday Showcase is to show folks that there are regular people on dating sites as well. I do think it’s hard to deliver constructive criticism when every other day of the week, we’re all just ripping folks up for the fun of it. It’s hard to just turn it off. But I am very protective of ALL of the people that do the Sunday Showcase.
It’s a big deal to put yourself out there at all, but much less on a blog about how terrible online dating is — to put yourself up on the chopping block. I was terrified when I did it — “Is Madame Date Wrecks herself going to be put on blast?” But blasting people on Sunday Showcase? Tthat’s not what we do on Sundays here.
You don’t like some of his pictures. That’s fair.
You’ll also notice that I didn’t attack you on your comment because your comment was fine – a good representation of your opinion without making some sort of DateWrecks-esque attack. Boy Wonder, his comment was not like that. So I raked him. Calling him a “dead ass broke 40 year old guy” was out of line.
Opinions are ALWAYS welcome. I have only ever deleted comments from one reader and that was because he was doing covert spamming. You are entitled to yours and I am entitled to mine.
I don’t get why you’re still beefing about this, Jay. I didn’t even buck at you holmes.

Personally, I’m not a fan of the scruffy, overly-lived-in t-shirt look on a guy, so the fourth picture is too greasy for my tastes. However, I realize that some women might like that, so whether you keep it on there is up to you.
I do, however, LOVE the first and third photos. The first is a great shot and very *rawr*. The third is an excellent composition and shows well what he enjoys doing. Very nice.
I’d say ax the second photo as it kind of seems out of place. If you have another photo of you actually enjoying the party, that might be better. That is, of course, unless you truly hate birthday cake, then it fits, I suppose.
The profile seems a little sparse, but it’s not distractingly so, and if I was single and in the area, there are great jumping points for questions. Definitely not a bad thing.
All over, I give it a thumbs up. Good luck to you!

Can I offer some (hopefully) constructive criticism? Overall he seems fine (though I agree that the second picture should go), but there’s nothing here that jumps out at me or makes me want to know more about him. The line about donning a pair of tights and saving the world shows a promising glimmer of humor — I would definitely like to see more of that and less “just the facts.” He seems to have a lot of good points, which he should elaborate on a bit, rather than spending so much time on what he doesn’t want or what would make a potential match not want him.
The only other thing I take issue with is saying “ask me anything” twice. That’s a big pet peeve for me. In general, it makes the writer seem like he’s too dumb, boring, or insecure to say anything interesting or appealing about himself. I don’t think that’s the case here, but it’s not the best way to present yourself — it’s like telling women right up front that they’ll have to do all the communicating in the relationship. If he can’t think of anything to say about himself, perhaps his friends could give him some suggestions — I’m sure they could come up with all kinds of great things that he’s too modest to think of himself.
From Jami’s enthusiastic comments, it seems like he’s an awesome guy who’s not really doing himself justice with this profile.

He’s very handsome! (Handsome — does that make me sound like I’m 80??)
He does not appear to be arrogant or stupid, which I usually check for when meeting good-looking men. (Thank god for life experience.)
I like the variety of pics. I don’t know what the big deal is with the pacman cake pic. I like it. I like that he’s not afraid to get dirty or sweaty and it looks like he cleans up well. He seems very comfortable in himself. And I don’t think that he has to have a picture with a suit and nice shoes, not all women are into that. And not all women are into metrosexual. I don’t want a man who plucks his eyebrows more than I do.
The profile itself is brief but has enough that if somebody is interested, they’ll write. You don’t need to write an essay, just enough to get somebody interested and I think it does that.
I don’t know Violent Fems/Femmes so I didn’t catch that but a misspell on a band name seems insignificant to me.
And back to the comments on the pictures one more time.. the homogenizer one makes me chuckle. The cake one, yeah.. you could be smiling but maybe you’re just concentrating on not dropping the cake.
Overall, I think it’s good. I didn’t see anything that made me go, “Uh… thanks, but no.” Good luck!!

These would TOTALLY be the kind of clothes I’d wear on a shoot, I need something I DO NOT care about climbing around in any position I need to be to get the shot. And pockets, and layers to put on/peel off.
Also, anyone looking to make payroll assumptions at this stage is probably best weeded out, regardless of his earning status.
OK now on to what I *wanted* to say here, which is that I LOVED this line in his profile:
“Raising my dramatic 13 year old daughter …” Made me bust out laughing. Just wonderful!
