What is this world coming to? In all of my days of surfing the internet, this may be the most depressing page I have ever viewed.

The guy is not going for "pretentious" as much as he is going for "elitist." I'm not sure why people are missing that distinction. He is also a narcissist - "tried to resist" commenting but "couldn't." Like 6 times? Excuse me while I wipe the vomit from my chest.

Now, I am being harsh for several reasons. One major issue I have is the sentence about his lack of commitment. Why didn't anyone point out that it is one of the most strained, affected sentences ever constructed? In fact, his whole profile is affected, and he is clearly reaching to present an image since his default wording is so inane (he is definitely the type of guy who says "aww" and "lovely" and uses smiley faces).

My second major issue is the fact that he isn't smart. Period. The comments alone indicate that. He lists the Objectivism drivel but can't discuss it substantively. Further, his grammar usage is merely above average. Last, his comments are borderline asinine. There is a reason that he is looking to be perceived as intelligent, yet the majority of comments focus on his meta-pretentiousness act. It's really all he has going for him.

My third major issue, which I've mentioned, is that he is NOT good with grammar. Hello!? Could this guy possibly botch the connecting of two clauses any more than he does? Why did nobody point this out? I don't consider myself perfect in this area, but I don't flaunt my supposedly superior grammar skills in front of the internet only to forget and misplace commas routinely. I mean, we have a profile where half of the things this dude says he is "really good at" are objectively false right from the start. And the one thing left is that he is really good at "alienating people?" Please, where do I sign up to date this guy?

I am all for constructive criticism, but this profile is beyond repair. I think pseudo-elitist intellectuals have their place, but this is someone out of his league even in Grand Rapids, MI. If I ever see you, Jake (it'd be at the Meanwhile no doubt, right?), I promise I will accost you in the hopes of taking a picture with you. And I want you to look at anything but the camera.

Seriously, this guy is a dating intelligence test, and unfortunately, the majority of you seem to have failed.

awww... i love him. I kind of married him... except for the Objectivism: dude - really? You and the tea party both reference Ayn Rand? You might want to rethink that!

Otherwise, there's nothing wrong with being pretentious and listing to NPR ;-)

Guess my head wasn't that clear yet, hah!

After picking my jaw up from the floor, and cleaning up the ocean of drool, I'm back to comment with a clear mind.

I think it was a great profile. I loved his wit and his sense of humour. I didn't really see pick up any pretentiousness. Or, maybe I'm just as bad as him, hah!

I would love to talk to him, simply because I feel I could learn a lot from him. I love people who can teach me new things. =)
